description

Our Steckerlfisch seasoning salt with a hint of lemon and paprika.

Steckerlfisch is an integral part of Bavarian cuisine, an Oktoberfest / Wiesn, folk festival or beer garden without the typical “Steckerlfisch” is unthinkable. Simply bring Bavarian cuisine into your home and enjoy a Steckerlfisch at home, or as the Bavarians say: “Dahoam”.

In the past, whitefish or carp were fished from lakes and rivers. These were completely gutted and speared lengthwise on a branch from the mouth to the tip of the tail and then grilled over an open campfire. Today, mainly farmed fish such as mackerel or char are used. In Bavaria, however, trout has established itself for folk festivals and beer gardens. Steckerlfisch is traditionally known at the Wiesn / Oktoberfest, where this specialty was first offered in 1914.

However, you can also prepare Steckerlfisch in a pan or in the oven without the “Steckerl”:
Sprinkle your fish, whether trout or carp, with our Steckerlfischsalz and you will not only get a magical crispy skin in terms of color, but also an extraordinary aroma of our finely balanced spices.

For an “original” Wiesn Steckerlfisch over the grill, wash the gutted trout, pat it dry with kitchen paper and oil it carefully, preferably with sunflower oil. Then sprinkle the fish generously inside and out with our Steckerlfisch seasoning salt. A wooden stick approx. 60 cm long is then pushed through the trout's mouth almost to the tail. This is not traditional, but you can of course also use an iron rod. The plug is then positioned so that the trout is upside down diagonally above the grill. During the grilling time, the fish should not be turned often so that it does not slip off the plug. Brush a little oil on the skin from time to time to prevent it from drying out. As soon as the skin starts to blister, the Steckerlfisch is ready.
It is traditionally served with pretzels, sometimes also bread rolls.

Our tip: sprinkle with a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice before serving.

Hand-filled in our elegant aroma bag with viewing window and practical clip closure.
